WSSF INTERSECTION RECAP

The Intersection film contest, which took place over the weekend during the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) in Whistler, B.C., pushed six snow sports crews to their limits as they worked to shoot, produce and edit a five to seven minute ski/snowboard film in just seven days. The result? Stunning artistic vision, impressive execution and a whole lot of shredding.

Like each and every year, all footage was required to be shot within 100 kilometres of Whistler, with 75% on-snow and 30 seconds of both park footage and in-bounds terrain, making it a visual love letter to the inspiring world-class destination for snow sports and culture that is Whistler Blackcomb.

On the docket this year was Andrew Santos Media (who set the tone early with some fun-filled ski and snowboard party shredding), Gaper Gone Wild (who lived up to their name with a raucous ski porn that showcased a humorous but meaningful take on the spirit of Whistler, with an assist from Stan Rey), Gradestone (an all-snowboard crew who kept it raw and real by shooting on an old-school camera), The Burrrlapz (who travelled from Fernie to shoot for the event, and as expected, delivered the most entertaining edit of the bunch), RK Films (who put forth a documentary-style film that highlighted the hard work of ski and snowboard photographers), and the Cariboo Blondes (an all-female crew who wowed the crowd with some of the most stellar skiing in this contest).

When it was all said and done, The Burrrlapz walked away with Best in Show and $10,000, while the Cariboo Blondes captured the hearts and minds of the crowd by winning the People’s Choice Award.
