WSSF ARTISTS ANNOUNCED

The World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF), which takes place in Whistler, B.C. on April 10th - 15th, will be dropping the beats this spring with the WSSF Music Series including A Tribe Called Red and Jazzy Jeff pumping up the athletes during the Big Air comps, and Mountain Magic bringing a host of international DJ’s for the finale party of the winter season—The END. Alongside the music talent, WSSF is announcing this year’s lineup of photographers, filmmakers, speakers, and artists—rolling the arts into this one-of-a-kind festival that celebrates all things mountain culture.

 

Mountain Magic Tour presents The END - Saturday, April 14th

The final stop of the Mountain Magic Tour is blowing in perfect conditions for an all-night dance fest with an incredible line-up including female DJ and electronic music producer Mija, UK's DJ Sinden and DJ Craze. Rolling in with them is the fun-loving Mountain Magic Tour crew of Smalltown DJs, Christian Martin, Mat the Alien, Ardalan, and a Case of the Mondays. Inspired by the great Western Canadian electronic music festivals such as Bass Coast and Shambhala, this year The END will feature massive PK sound and lighting production, dancers, and art installations. Kokanee Freeride Club Series
From the piste to the party WSSF has lined up bands and DJs at select venues all over Whistler. On Tuesday catch Electric 6, a six-piece alternative rock band, at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC), Aussie DJ LDRU at Garfinkel’s on Wednesday, and then it’s back to the GLC on the Friday for the monster horns, crushing percussion, and shredding psych-rock guitars of Five Alarm Funk. What Do Legends In The Outdoor World Have In Common? MULTIPLICITY
Eight adventure personalities deliver jaw-dropping visual stories to a captivated audience. This year’s line up includes mountain bike legends Darren Berrecloth and Hans ‘No Way’ Rey, climber John ‘Largo’ Long, diver Jill Heinerth, snowboarder Alex Warburton, ski bum Johnny Thrash, and adventurers Casey Brown and Ted Baird. Intersection Filmmakers Include First All-Female Crew
Six teams will each be putting together a 5-7 minute ski/snowboard film in just seven days to wow the audience with one team taking home $10,000. In the running are reigning champs RK Films from Whistler, previous participants Andrew Santos Media and Gapers Gone Wild, Fernie first-timers Burrrlapz, the first all-female crew the Cariboo Blondes from the interior of BC, and locally-bred first-timers Gradestone. Photographers Announced for the Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown
A crowd favourite, this showdown pits six photographers against each other to impress the judges and the audience with shots that capture sports, culture, and the human spirit. Canadian Ashley Barker pairs personality with sharp and vibrant imagery; hailing from the US Chris Burkard captures stories that inspire people to consider their relationship with nature; Grant Gunderson, also from the US and founder of The Ski Journal brings years of action sports photography to the table; Fred Mortagne from France throws his unique blend of skateboard and street photography into the mix; and then the Wild Card entry, Roberto Alegria from Spain brings his skateboard photography talent to the show. ART + Soul is Back with a New Look
Open daily from April 11-13, 12-6pm this free exhibit exposes the underbelly of mountain culture, going beyond landscapes and wildlife. Multiple mediums and dimensions, the art encompasses everything from canvas to skateboards, inspired by nature, sport, and the belief that there are no boundaries. Taka Sudo, Vanessa Stark, Chad Depner, and Sarah Gold are just a few of the artists showcasing their work at this out-of-bounds explosion of creativity hailing from Vancouver, Revelstoke, and the Sea to Sky. The opening après party is on Tuesday, April 10 from 3:30-6:30pm and the new Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme presented by Kokanee poster will be on sale then and throughout the art show, but numbers are limited—once they’re gone, they’re gone!
