“After spending the past few years skiing on stiffer, flat-tailed, directional warhorses, my aging back and knees were pushing me in the direction of something more frolicsome. Enter the K2 Reckoner 112, which offered the best of both worlds as I skied it all winter long. While still firm enough to confidently straight-line chutes and charge through crud, chopped-up pow and bumps, it’s got a playfulness to it that made me feel like a kid again. With strategically placed braided carbon stringers that give this 112-millimetre-underfoot, fully twin-tipped ski more of a bounce in its step, it gravitated toward slashing and popping off of everything in sight, which made surfing through pow, shadow dancing in the trees and blasting down groomers an absolute thrill. And while I found them to be fairly forgiving and easy enough to ski in comparison to a more traditional freeride-oriented model, I would most recommend the Reckoner to an advanced skier who’s both willing and able to stay on top of this steed for a wild ride.” –Jeff Schmuck

Raised in Rossland but now based in Vancouver, our very own editor Jeff Schmuck returns to his old stomping grounds of Red Mountain Resort as often as he can to lay down lefts and rights at his favourite place to ski in the world, and nostalgically listen to golden-aged locals tell tales of old during après at Rafters. Due to his early days in the dense, tangled forests that make up Red’s multifaceted slopes, Schmuck loves tree skiing above all else, and therefore currently prefers a slightly stiff, fully rockered, shapely, poppy, non-directional twin-tip a little above or below 110 millimetres in the waist.
