World’s leading outdoor brand to outfit North America’s largest resort in six-year partnership
Montreal, Qc. — May 02, 2016 — The North Face and Whistler Blackcomb are excited to announce a new six-year partnership which will see the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, provide the uniforms for the ski area’s employees. Throughout the duration of the partnership, The North Face will outfit various Whistler Blackcomb staff, including Snow School ski instructors in 2016/2017, and Snow School snowboard instructors and Ski Patrol starting in 2018.
Whistler Blackcomb is North America’s largest mountain resort and the partnership will be the largest overall resort uniform program for The North Face.
The relationship between The North Face and Whistler Blackcomb has deep roots, with The North Face first providing uniforms to the resort over a decade ago. The relationship has since evolved into a multi-year, year round partnership that also includes The North Face sponsorship of several programs, events, and organizations within the resort.
“Whistler Blackcomb is one of the world’s premier mountain resorts with some of the world’s best instructors and staff. We are thrilled to embark in this partnership with an iconic Canadian, North American and global destination for adventure lovers,” says Scott Gellis, General Manager at The North Face Canada.
The North Face is built on designing products of unrivaled performance to allow people to push the limits of what is humanly possible. For the first time, The North Face designed resort outerwear kits from the ground up exclusively for Whistler Blackcomb. The North Face designers shadowed staff from parking lots to mountaintops to immerse themselves in the unique culture of the mountains, and assess the specific needs of each staff member. The outerwear kit, which has been in development for 18 months with partners Primaloft® and GORE-TEX®, will include a jacket, pants, and a mid-layer.
“Each job on the mountain, whether lift operator or ski patrol, has different needs and challenges,” says The North Face Snow Sports Product Director Dan Ramos. “We thought about everything from durability and storage, to more nuanced details like visible learning cues that ski instructors can use to help students, and even colors that inspire happiness or tranquility.”
“The North Face represents the pursuit of adventure and Whistler Blackcomb is where that adventure happens, making this a natural partnership,” says Dave Brownlie, President and CEO at Whistler Blackcomb. “We are excited to see where this relationship takes us, our employees, and our guests, who will all benefit from the ingenuity and authenticity The North Face brings.”
