The North Face Park & Pipe Open Series Virtual Competition Announced

The North Face Park & Pipe Open Series Virtual Series returns for its second year, adding Big Air to complement its Slopestyle and Halfpipe online video competitions.

Registration for Pros, Amateurs and Juniors is Now Open

Following the success of its inaugural season in 2015, The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series Virtual Competition (PPOS) has opened registration for 2015-2016 season. In partnership with GoPro, Newschoolers, Freeskier Magazine and Forecast Ski Magazine, competitive freeskiers anywhere in North America can "virtually" compete with one another by submitting videos of their best park and pipe runs from their favorite resorts and venues.

New this season, big air will be added as a discipline alongside slopestyle and halfpipe. Divisions have also been added for amateurs and juniors alongside the pro/open field. Competition categories will also be divided by gender with equal prizing for women and men. More than $45,000 worth of prizes will be awarded, including $15,000 cash, gear from The North Face, GoPro cameras, the chance to film and ride with Tom Wallisch in "Good Company," and more. Additionally, The North Face will award a $2,000 scholarship to the resort, club or team who has the most participants submit videos to the competition.

"The North Face was thrilled by the great competition submissions and feedback we received last season," said The North Face Sports Marketing Director Katie Ramage. "This year, we hope even more athletes will participate in this progressive open competition. We are also excited to add big air to the PPOS Virtual competition, which allows additional ways for freeskiers to showcase their skills and style."

Videos submitted to the PPOS Virtual Competition will receive awards determined by votes as well as formal scoring by a panel of esteemed judges. Last season's judging panel included Mike Atkinson, Jason Arens, Tom Wallisch, Mike Riddle and Maddie Bowman. Judges use criteria similar to past PPOS events, evaluating progression, amplitude, variety, execution, and difficulty. Each discipline will run as its own competition with deadlines for video submissions and votes. Winners of each discipline will be judged and announced in three separate rounds. Additional special awards including best trick, best 100% GoPro edit and viewer's choice for the video which receives the most votes.

Noah Wallace of Spokane, Washington, USA emerged as the 2015 grand prize recipient after winning the men's slopestyle and viewer's choice categories. As a result, Wallace was featured in a segment in Tom Wallisch's film, "Good Company Two" which went on to win the Best Short Film in the Pro category of the IF3 Film Festival in September of this year.

"Entering The North Face PPOS Virtual Competition ended up being the best decision I made last season," remarked Noah Wallace. "I am very thankful Wallisch picked me for the grand prize...Getting the opportunity to ski with the Good Company crew was easily one of the top highlights of my season. There was never a dull time hanging with the crew that week. It was the best park shoot I've done so far with so many talented riders, and the many awesome features setup by the Seven Springs Park crew. I am looking forward to seeing what happens this winter!"
