Peak Performance’s Vancouver Drop In Recap

This past weekend, Peak Performance celebrated the opening of its brand-new store on the corner of Robson and Burrard Street in the heart of downtown Vancouver, B.C. by hosting a rail jam a block and a half away on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery in Robson Square.

The event, the first of its kind in downtown Vancouver, was hosted in partnership with CHEF, Red Bull Canada, UBC Ski & Board and Arena Snowparks, who installed three custom-built features while volunteers from the UBC Ski & Snowboard Club drove in over 2,000 cubic feet of snow.

Practice for the CHEF-organized competition began at 1 p.m. followed by a qualifying round and finals under the lights at 4 p.m., while a DJ and free drinks in the VIP area, both provided by Red Bull Canada, helped set the vibe.

In addition to members of UBC Ski & Board, a number of local pros showed up to compete, including Peak Performance team riders Mark Hendrickson (who recently removed himself from the Olympic qualifying competition circuit due to injury setbacks) and Whistler’s Makenna Griffiths, Red Bull athlete Max Moffatt, Surface Skis team rider Shonny Charbonneau (who is a mainstay in Joey Kraft’s films), ON3P athlete Rudy Lepine (who appears in Level 1’s latest film, Fingers Crossed), and Salomon athlete Mili Hoffmann, who recently relocated to Squamish from the Rockies.

Once it was all said and done, Charbonneau picked up the win in the women’s division with Griffiths scoring second and Hofmann taking home third, while on the men’s side of things, Hendrickson held it down in first with Moffat in second and Lepine in third, and the victors ultimately split a $6,000 prize purse.

Big thanks to Peak Performance for putting on such an incredible and fun-filled show in the centre of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and if you’re in the Vancouver area now or in the future then be sure to pop into their new store.
