Blizzard Tecnica Releases Limited Edition Black Pearl 88

Blizzard Tecnica is launching a limited-edition run of their best-selling ski, the Black Pearl 88. Blizzard tapped Taos, New Mexico-based artist, ski patroller and Women2Women member Malia Reeves to illustrate the topsheet, making this collaboration her second with Blizzard Tecnica.

Released in a limited run of under 1,000 skis available, this special edition of the Black Pearl 88 features original artwork from Malia Reeves, and serves as a celebration of 10 years since the creation of Blizzard Tecnica’s Women2Women initiative.

When sharing about the artistic process, Reeves said: “The top mountains are the Kaiser Mountains near Mittersill. The bottom mountain is Cinque Torri in the Dolomites. The flowers are Snow Roses and Snow Drops… both wildflowers that bloom through the snow in the Alps. I love the idea of delicate, beautiful flowers that are strong and hardy enough to love the snow and alpine climate.”

“And the wolves, of course, are the W2W pack. Each wolf has its own personality and look. Whether a woman feels more kinship with the tough little wildflower or the prowling wolf, we all love the mountains and the snow! I wanted a more vibrant and lively design for this one… reflecting the energy that W2W inspires and the complexities and diversity it represents,” Reeves said.

Each pair of skis sold will funnel $125 back into the Blizzard Tecnica Hilaree Nelson Professional Development Program, which was named after Nelson’s untimely death on Manaslu in 2022. Each year, the program supports 100 women in pursuing professional growth in skiing, avalanche safety, and outdoor leadership. It also funds organizations advancing climate solutions and women’s voices in the outdoors, extending Nelson’s legacy of courage and advocacy. Since the program's launch five years ago, 103 recipients have received over $120,000 to further professional development and aid women to receive leadership roles in programs worldwide.

The Black Pearl 88—which is available in 152, 158, 164 and 170 lengths—is constructed with Blizzard’s proprietary Trueblend All Mountain Woodcore with Beech and Poplar in addition to a singularly women's-focused design of a singular strip of titanal to keep the ski powerful, yet maneuverable.
