WORLD SKI & SNOWBOARD FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES MULTIMEDIA EVENTS

The World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) is excited to announce the return of fan-favourite multimedia programming (with a slight twist) for the 2023 edition. The 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown, Sea to Sky Photo Challenge, and Intersection will be held on April 11th, 12th, and 13th from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. in the Emerald Ballroom at the Westin Resort & Spa Whistler.

The 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown, presented and produced by Whistler Film Festival, is a competition that has invites teams to shoot, edit, and produce a three-to-five minute short film in just 72 hours. Forget big budgets and exotic locations, we want to see how creative you can get by filming within 100 kilometres of Whistler using any recording device of your choosing. Any aspiring filmmaker can enter, but it will take grassroots grit, originally, imagination, and great storytelling to steal centre stage.

"The team at the Whistler Film Festival (WFF) is thrilled to be partnering with the World Ski and Snowboard Festival on the return of the 72-Hour Filmmaker Showdown,” says Angela Heck, Executive Director of WFF. “WSSF has always been such a fun way to send off the winter and we can't wait to see all of the awesome short films that the Sea to Sky community creates for the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown."

The top films will premiere at the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown on April 11th and compete for a first place prize of $5,000 and the coveted People’s Choice Award. Registration will open in the coming weeks.

The Sea to Sky Photo Challenge, produced by Holly Fraser, is a grassroots twist on the Pro Photographer Showdown from previous years. Showcasing some of the most talented photographers from the Sea to Sky region, this event is an awe-inspiring celebration of the craft of photography, where each photographer will showcase their all-time favourite images of sport, culture, and human spirit. The invited photographers will be judged by an esteemed panel of award-winning commercial and editorial photographers from the Sea to Sky corridor.

Intersection, produced in collaboration with the Manboys, is an event that pushes crews of artistic snow sports visionaries to their limits as they aim to create a masterpiece that truly captures the beauty of ski and snowboard culture. New for 2023, Intersection has invited five local crews to participate. These crews have 12 days to shoot, edit, and submit a four-to-six minute winter action sports edit all filmed within the province of B.C. These films will be shown on April 13th and judged by a panel of industry experts as well as the audience.

Tickets for these highly anticipated events will go on sale to Après Pass Members and Ambassadors on Friday,  March 17th. Tickets and three-pack ticket bundles will go on sale to the general public on Monday, March 20th.

Born out of a love for all that is mountain culture, the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) has been the ultimate après of the winter season since 1996. During this annual celebration of snow sports, music, arts, and culture, we will showcase Whistler’s reputation as a mecca for mountain culture.
