R.I.P. Maxim Arsenault

We at Forecast are incredibly sad to report that Whistler-based big mountain skier Maxim Arsenault has died while skiing near Haines, Alaska.

According to an article on CBC News and other sources, Maxim was skiing on Haines Pass near the Alaska/Yukon border yesterday during a film trip when he reportedly fell off a 30-foot cliff and triggered a small avalanche that buried him. Members of the film crew who were with him were able to partially dig Maxim out prior to a search and rescue team arriving on the scene, but he had already passed away.

Maxim was a staple in the Whistler community who possessed a good natured, stoke-inducing and positive demeanour and personality that was as infectious as his balls to the walls skiing. He will be sorely missed by anyone and everyone who had the pleasure of being around him, and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Maxim, you were, are and will always be the man. Rest and Ski in Peace.
