Test Notes
The Atomic Maven 86 C didn’t catch me by surprise, as just like the Atomic brand, it was steadfast, reliable and delivered a quality feeling on snow. It thrived on fast groomers and linking stable turns, confidently explored off-piste terrain, and lived for spring corn snow. Whether you’re feeling the corduroy or venturing off-trail, what you won’t feel on the Maven is a rough ride. Its carbon construction absorbed most, if not all, that I threw at it, and its lengthy effective edge provided the right amount of stability to carry me through my most committed turns. Beginner to intermediate skiers will love this ski’s balance of confidence and exploration when starting to venture outside of their comfort zone, at which point they’ll see what the Maven, and skiing as a whole, has to offer. —Kate Verhagen

Cons
- Not ideal for steep, technical terrain.
- Was a bit narrow for deeper powder.
