The all-new Nordica Unleashed 98 CA is such a fun ride. It’s soft and forgiving, and the initiation of turns felt effortless. A natural at carving, it was easy to get on edge and rail turns on soft, groomed runs. I skied the Unleashed in marginal conditions, when the forecast was calling for anything from rain to snow, with the unusual possibility of a tornado in the area. Once I got up top to the Paradise area of Red Mountain Resort, I was blessed with a smattering of flurries and a bit of fog on a melt-freeze base. After only a run or two my concerns about the weather vanished, as the pleasure of riding this ski dominated the experience. Even though my ski partner and I were two of the few brave soles that ventured out on that particular morning, we had nothing but smiles and high-fives back at the base area once our day was done. —Mike Flood
