Without mincing words, at first glance, the all-new Line Poisson looked like a gimmick. The half-metal swallow tail, trippy fish-scale-inspired graphics, and unconventional design made it seem more like a concept ski than a serious all-mountain weapon. But once on snow, any skepticism I had disappeared. It felt like Line took a gamble with this design, and the result is one of the most impressive skis they’ve ever produced. At 110 millimetres underfoot, it delivered outstanding flotation in powder while remaining remarkably composed when conditions deteriorated. This ski’s most impressive attribute is that it’s surprisingly damp, which allowed it to blast through crud, chop and variable snow with the confidence of a heavy charger. It also carved far better than a ski this wide or with a swallow tail has any right to, offering strong edge hold and a smooth, predictable feel on firmer snow without grabbing any pesky edges. And most importantly for fellow big mountain enthusiasts, it’s a true well-rounded powder plank that loves speed, stomping landings, and encourages aggressive skiing.
