The Head Crux 99 Pro is a dream for anyone looking to ski not only down the slopes, but also up. It’s an extremely light, touring-focused ski that flies up the skin track, but still more than holds its own on the descent. Utilizing carbon and graphene in the core, and throwing out excessive features like topsheets, Head has managed to keep this ski lightweight but stable. When I initially clicked into it, I was worried that something so light would not be reliable on the way down. But I’m happy to report I was wrong. This ski performed admirably in all types of conditions and terrain, thriving in fresh pow or spring snow and solidly handling the bumps and trees. So for those looking to bag peaks, or just give your hip flexors some welcome relief, consider the Crux your new best friend. —Kate Lesnik
