The Fischer Nightstick 97 is a playful freestyle-focused ski with a whole lot of pep in its step. It felt as at home as a Dad lounging in a weathered La-Z-Boy when popping off park jumps, side hits and rollers, and thanks to its light but robust platform, supple yet sturdy flex, and the medieval sword-like edge control that exists in all of Fischer’s skis, railed groomers with confidence and grace. At 97-millimetres underfoot, it doesn’t cut the mustard quite like its big brother, the Nightstick 104, in deeper snow, but its agility and quickness pleasantly surprised me in boot-high soft chop and painfully firm crud, where it sliced, diced and made short work of any shrapnel that lay in its path. This spry ski also provided a fun, surf-like feel when arcing left and rights thanks to a progressive swivel point underfoot, and while it’s ideal for advanced to expert skiers who live for catching air in the park in between blasting to and from the chair, an adventurous intermediate who’s looking to take their skiing to the next level would be well served to take a joyride on the Nightstick 97. —Jeff Schmuck
