Faction continues to stay true to its brand with the Dancer 79, another no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, beautifully made ski. As an ex-racer turned powder-hunting, reckless, bull-charging skier who prefers wide skis, at first glance I was, to say the least, skeptical. But the Dancer turned out to be the most surprising ski of the test for me. It did what it’s told as a stiff ski, and railed groomers with tight, sharp, biting turns, although if I wanted to full send, I’d size up to the 184-centimetre length. On one of the days I tested it, I brought the Dancer back out to double confirm its exceptional ability on groomers, but by 1 p.m. there was 10-to-12 centimetres of fresh that a sneaky storm had brought in. And the amount of fun I proceeded to have on a 79-millimetre underfoot ski while cruising through trees and ripping up tight groomer turns on top of 10 centimetres was absolutely unexpected. But don’t get it twisted. This ski is for sinking into groomers, although what it was capable of outside the corduroy was both surprising and impressive. “Hold me cloooser Tiny Daaancccer!” —Jack Lesnik
