I had the opportunity to ski the Elan Playmaker 101 in a 180-centimetre length during the spring at Red Mountain Resort, where I tested it on frozen, hard-packed slopes in the mornings that softened to slushy corn in the afternoon, and this playful freeride-focused ski was impressively versatile in both sets of snow conditions. It’s an enjoyably nimble but stable ski that handled both short and long radius turns with ease, and excelled in every type of terrain I tested in, from groomers to glades, bumps and the steeps. While this twin-tip ski blends freestyle characteristics with freeride capabilities, I feel it would be an excellent choice as an all-mountain daily driver for any intermediate to advanced skier who appreciates a ski with a bit of pep in its step. —Jordie Hall
