Following a precipitation drought in Rossland, I eagerly grabbed the Armada ARV 106 at the first sign of snow. Not only did this ski show me a good time in the new powder, but it also brought that playful frame of mind to each run, and had me searching for every side hit I could find. In fresh snow, the ARV produced that addictive surfy feeling that’s typical of Armada’s skis, while being nimble and smeary in the trees and bumps. This ski has enough stiffness to plow through some of the more chopped-up terrain, but you may have to brace for the bounce when conditions worsen, which is an expected sacrifice for the softer tip and moderate flex. The ARV’s mix of playfulness and all-mountain capabilities make this ski an excellent choice for moderate to advanced skiers who are looking to tackle the mountain with flair and an eye for air. —Kate Lesnik
